Eat my Protractor!

"So what do you do on a Friday night? Study or something?"

That totally ridiculous question (that presented evidence of 'I don't think before I speak') was asked by a guy (let's call him Ziggy) in my class. I had the unlady-like urge to say, "Your mama!" but (luckily) I was too taken aback by his statement to give an immediate (and inappropriate reply).

People still stereotype the 'clever' kids into the Nerd Box.

Nerds. The word bring to mind Vitamin-D deprived teenage boys who can think of little more exciting than having a Level 80 Blood Elf on WoW (and if that didn’t immediately translate to World of Warcraft you are such a n00b) and can frequently be found huddling around the latest copy of NAG or discussing the cinematic effects of Star Trek (while you swoon over Chris Pine's abs).

When Ziggy asked me that question I could see that he was slightly disappointed in my life choices- not choosing to get wasted and dance on table tops in burlesque dresses every Friday night.

Oppress us! Yes. Make fun. Mock. Mock away. But we know that you have that underlying fear that we are going to be your bosses one day (can anyone say Bill Gates?). BOOYAH.

You just got owned.

"I couldn't quite perfect that nonchalance"

There is something about a 'it-might-rain' Saturday morning that I find particularly charming. The pale grey clouds could pose a threat to someone's well-planned pool party that everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) has been looking forward to but I take a strange liking to them.

Why?
These (for most) gloomy mornings make me want to throw on a black trench coat, have some green tea at Mickey's and listen to some smooth jazz. They make me feel like... an artist.

Maybe sunny days filled with colour are inspirational- but they also enourage nudity and neon. But grey mornings inspire you purity and... oh what the heck- they make me feel like Jane Austin!

Corinne makes 'it-might-rain' mornings look so good

Okay. So by now, you think that I am a bit crazy. Or alot. So to fight my case againt suspected insanity, I urge you to watch Corinne Bailey Rae's video, Paris nights/New York Mornings, on her website.

Beatlemania and Toxic Pianos

Regardless of the fact that I probably would have been an oppressed negro- I sometimes wish that I was a 60s kid.
Why?
THE BEATLES!! (what else could it be?)
There was Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock and VW Beetles but- Nothing tops the Beatles and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band!

This 60s band has always had huge fans (like me) throughout the years and makes me a bit sad and jealous that I wasn't there to experience their awesomness LIVE:-(
But that's not what this post is about.

And neither is this: If they weren't old and wrinkly (and sadly, dead),  I would have been a huge Beatles groupie because they were hott.

And now the point...

Mark Ronson
Panic! at the Disco

The Beatles
Spot the difference?
Not much is there...

I (almost died) when I got Mark Ronson's album Version. Mark Ronson is a jazz musician and producer that mixes his retro jazz with acts such as rapper, Wale and other artists such as Daniel Merriweather, Lily Allen, Amy Whinehouse and Robbie Williams.
My Mark Ronson favorites?
>Toxic (version revisited) feat. Tiggers
>Pretty Green feat. Santo Gold: the crazy mix of instruments that lean to a cacophonie (I probably misspelt that)

And Panic! at the Disco?
With their debut album 'I write Sins not Tragidies' they had a very electro mixed with FallOutBoy sound but in Pretty.Odd they really lean towards a very Beatles sound.
To substantiate what I am saying, Listen to the Beatles song 'I want to hold your hand' and then listen to the Panic! at the Disco song, 'Pas De Cheval'.

So I am not a 60s kid but it's not so bad, thanks to Panic!at the Disco, Mark Ronson and (slightly irrelevant)I-pods.

You Hear that Doug?

I could have made my first blog about Mark Ronson (the man!!) or John Lennon but I decided to blog about something WAY WAY WAY HOTTER.
But first a story.

Recently, my friends and I decided to go see the awesome *Goldish* at Emmerencia. When we got there the second act was a band called *Goodluck*. I already thought "Oh geez. Bring on the Fishies before I'm 60!"
And Goodluck just walked up there and mid-Jazzy Fizzle I was half convinced that this might be a decent band.
Somewhere between Harlem and Why Don't You I was totally into this band, dancing like a freak in skinny jeans and pirate boots on wet grass.

Who is this Goodluck?
Goodluck does the same sort of Electronic Jazz thing that Goldfish does but their lead singer Juliet Harding has this amazing 40s Jazz Lounge voice that gives the band their own flavour of awesome. The (electronic percussion??) guy, Ben Peters is the Master Mind that makes all of the awesome jams that you can dance to for hours on end. When he is on stage he just does his (dare I say it?) thing. Then there is the sax and keys player, Raiven Hansmann- he OWNS the sax and the keys. and should I mention that he is >hott<? I just did.
Together, this trio makes musical magic! You should find a way to get a hold of their 6-song album "Get Lucky"
My favorite songs?
1. Electro thing: The instruments and the lyrics are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G
and the best,
2. (1666) London: It's one of those songs that you manage to squeeze into ALL of your playlists because you can't get enough.
I have a feeling that Goodluck is going to do way bigger things and I, for one, can't wait for their debut album (soon?):-D
So on that note. Go check out this awesome band on Facebook. And check them out at Rocking the Daisies.
